About the Role

The School Counsellor contributes to the mission of CECG through professional counselling to school communities.  The service extends Pastoral Care and is core to school business in promoting and fostering student well-being and positive mental health, successful school engagement and development of all students academically, socially and psychologically. The School Counsellor works collaboratively with staff and parents in achieving this.

The Counsellor has a focus on fostering the development and mental health of all students, including those considered at-risk and those with special needs. This focus is achieved by applying counselling skills and engaging in individual interventions. This leads to more equitable educational access, participation, and student outcomes. The counsellor is a certified professional who works in partnership with the school by contributing specialised knowledge and skills in a collaborative, collegial manner.

Essential Criteria

• Minimum of four years' relevant post-qualification practice experience and be qualified at degree level in Psychology, Social Work, or Counselling.
• Commitment to the ethos and values of Catholic Education.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications - recognised university/college/institute degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counselling, or a relevant degree majoring in counselling
• Eligible for membership with the Australian Association (AASW), the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APRHA) or Australian Counselling Association (level 4)
• Adhere to the Association requirements annually with regard to:
  • supervision
  • professional learning
  • maintenance of membership during employment and provide evidence of membership to the employer.
• Highly developed counselling skills.
• Current Working with Vulnerable People registration.
